Brownies
Brownies should compete 6 out of the 12 activities below:
1. In what year was the Manlius Library founded? How many books does the library have? Who decides what books are purchased? How many books are taken out in an average day?
2. Besides books, what resources and services does the library offer?
3. With the permission of your parent or guardian, bring a book to donate to the library. The money from the sale of this book will be used to support the library.
4. Take a tour of the library with your troop. Have the librarian show you how to use the computer to find books at the Manlius Library and other libraries in the area.
5. Name five subject areas in the library in which you are interested. What is your favorite?
6. Let the library teach you. Find a book that teaches you something new, such as cook something, make a craft, learn about your favorite animal, find out about a famous person, learn a poem, etc.
7. Have a party dressing up as one of your favorite characters in a book. See if your friends can guess who you are. Read, or have an adult read to you, your favorite part of the book.
8. Books and other library materials can be damaged if they aren’t cared for properly. Can you name some things that might hurt a book or movie?
9. Can you write a book? Try to write a simple one.
10. Make a poster to inspire others to read.
11. Can you go a whole week without watching V? If you were shipwrecked on an island, what books would you want to bring with you? Why?
12. How does one become a librarian? Ask a librarian at the Manlius Library what you need to do to become a librarian.

1. In what year was the Manlius Library founded? 1915. How many books does the library have? over 58,000. Who decides what books are purchased? A librarian. How many books are taken out in a average day? almost 1000 items.
2. Besides books, what resources and services does the library offer? The library has movies, music, periodicals (newspapers and magazines,) books on tape or CD, computers for both children and adults, and online databases on a wide range of topics. The Manlius Library has story hours for children, book clubs, a summer reading program, computer instruction, a variety of special events, meeting rooms for community groups and a café.
3. With the permission of your parent or guardian, bring a book to donate to the library. The money from the sale of this book will be used to support the library. The library accepts donations of new or used books. Some books are added to the collection, others are sold at bi-yearly book sales to raise money for the library.

The librarian giving the tour will need to briefly discuss the subjects in questions 1,2,3,4,8, and 12.
